The Freedom Myth
This society is proud of it’s history of freedom. Freedom from English rule. Freedom of the slaves. Freedom of speech. Freedom to work hard and accomplish the American Dream. But are you really free?
If you are pulled by desires to do something crazy once in a while and you give in, once in a while, you have exercised the most important freedom of all. The freedom that comes when you are choose NOT to do that "crazy" thing. Crazy is NOT in the eye of the beholder. You have a mind which was fearfully and wonderfully made that lets you know how far is "too" far. You have to choose to ignore it.
If you are driven to act-out in your life because of loneliness, you are not free, you are driven by loneliness.
If you make it a practice to hurt others because you are hurt, you are not free, you are tied up by your pain.
If you do all of the above because you want to fit in with others who do all of the above, you are not free, you are in chains that connect you to those who you “perform” for.
Don’t be fooled. The one who can walk away from the desire to follow through the desire to commit bad behavior is the one who is free. The rest of you are tossed around like a small ship on a stormy sea. You are a slave to the activities of the storm. You are afraid to step out because the water looks too wicked to walk on. and...
You are only fooling yourself and the many others who choose to do the same, that is fool themselves. But that doesn't even work all the time, now, does it?
The wisdom of the sensible is to understand his way,
But the foolishness of fools is deceit.
